It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted anything. Mostly because there hasn’t been much to say. As you saw from the last post (and for everyone in Ohio you know this first hand) the weather has not been very cooperative. The snow and rain have got us about a month behind schedule. That may turn out to be a good thing however, since we still have to sell our townhouse.
I’m happy to report today that they started framing in the house yesterday. It has been a long time coming but we are now starting to see a real house being built. It’s exciting and a bit scary. I was standing in what will be our kitchen and everything still seems so small to me. I still haven’t been able to get my brain to comprehend the actual size since there is nothing in there to give it any perspective. I’m sure that will all change once the walls go up, but right now it’s hard to picture everything.
Ok, ok. Enough of me. Go to the picture gallery and check out those pictures.

We’ve had snow, and lots of it. This is why the progress on our house has slowed way down. It did however give me an opportunity to jump backwards into 18 inches of snow. Good times.
As for the house. I put up some new pictures. We have glass block windows in the basement installed and we also have some of our brick put up. It was really cool to see the brick that we spent so much time trying to pick out actually being used finally. Though I did get scared when Theresa said, “I’m not sure if I like it.” Umm…honey, it’s wayyy too late to do anything about the brick now. But once the house is done and we see the total package I’m sure we will be very happy with our selection.
I hope.

Well it’s been a while since I’ve last posted anything.
Why, you ask?
Not much new has happened. The weather has just been too cold and snowy for anything to get done. But we almost have the foundation complete. It seems like the foundation work has been going on forever. I’ll post some more pictures soon, even though they aren’t much different from the ones I’ve already posted.
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed so the weather will get better and we can get the house framed in pretty soon.

Well there is definitely progress at our new house. The foundation is being built, which is pretty exciting to see. I’ve received complaints that I’m slacking on getting the pictures up. Who knew keeping up with a blog could be so demanding?
So in order to keep everyone happy I’m going to put up some recent pictures and worry about titles and descriptions later. I’m going to be in Atlanta for 3 days for work so if I get any spare time I’ll try to do it then. If not, I’ll do it when I get back.

The excavation of our land is going well. As you can see, they have the lake dug and it even has a little bit of water in it. Get your fishing rods ready, there will be fish in it before you know it. There are some more photos in the gallery. They are a bit blurry because it was dark and we were using night shot and the flash. But, you get the general idea.
We are planning a field trip up to visit the site again this weekend. Anyone interested in checking it out in person let us know.

With the electric company’s recent installation of our permanent electric meter, and the hook up of electricity, we are charged and ready to begin the digging process.
The excavator will begin by digging the lake, or more accurately, the pond. Digging the pond will be a three day process and upon its completion they will dig the basement. That will only take one day.
Permits are currently being pulled for the pond and four days after they have been given the green light to begin, we will have two large holes in our property. I plan on taking a lot of pictures for the website and I would like to get some short video posted also. We’ll wait and see how that works out.
Meanwhile, we are looking at cabinets and appliances. Appliances should be fairly easy to choose. We are going with stainless steel everything. As for the cabinets, we really seem to be gravitating towards the darker stained wood. A couple of colors we like are ‘chocolate’ and ‘peppercorn’. Those just sound dark, don’t they? We still need to meet with an expert to pick out the look and style of our cabinets and plan the overall layout.
Oh, how the fun never stops…

We are one step closer to having our basement dug. What is the missing ingredient?
Electricity.
According to Lorain Medina Rural Electric we should have our electricity hooked up either tomorrow or Monday. That means the excavator should be able to start digging next week. Keep your fingers crossed!

We had a bit of a scare that we were going to have some serious water problems with our house being dug at the current location.
But after talking with our builder we are reassured that we are going to be fine right where we are. We are going to have a very good drainage and water-proofing system so it will be all good.
They are going to build the land up so we are up on higher ground. The only question now is: should we just have them scrape the land to get the dirt or dig a pond. Decisions, decisions. They never end.
As soon as we get electricity hooked up ( hopefully the electric company gets out there quick) we can have the basement dug. I’ll get some pictures of the hole in the ground up on the site as soon as that happens. And I promise that the driveway pictures are coming soon.
